Hopkinsville Man Enters Guilty Plea to Shooting

A plea deal several months in the making came to fruition on Wednesday in Christian County Circuit Court.

Jeffrey Proffitt was charged with first-degree assault and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon after he was accused of shooting a woman in the leg during an argument at a Petsch Lane residence last June.

Proffitt pled guilty to amended charges of fourth-degree assault, first-degree wanton endangerment, and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon. The Commonwealth recommended five years in prison as punishment and opposed probation.

Final sentencing is scheduled for May 8.
