City Applying for Funding to Support Public Safety Needs

The City of Hopkinsville will be applying for two federal grants for public safety needs. Tuesday night, City Council voted to approve two resolutions in support of the grant applications.

Chief Financial Officer, Melissa Clayton says the grant application is due next week, with the fire department needing equipment.

City Council also approved the first reading of new zoning designations for areas of Canton Pike as well as the lease of trucks for Hopkinsville Solid Waste. After a brief discussion at the request of Councilwoman Jamie Lienberger, the Council will be taking up discussion on urban chickens at a Committee of the Whole meeting in the near future.

Meanwhile, Clayton reviewed the year-to-date financials, saying through the end of March both payroll and property tax collection were above budget.
