Man Charged After High-Speed Pursuit

A pursuit that started in Madisonville ended in Christian County Tuesday afternoon.

Madisonville Police say they stopped a car driven by 22-year-old Wakeem Mumford of Hopkinsville on US 41 in Nortonville for failing to stop at a stop sign and he fled at a high rate of speed and traveled through a parking lot.

Christian County Sheriff’s deputies were reportedly able to end the pursuit by using spike strips at exit 11 when it crossed into Christian County on Pennyrile Parkway at over 100 mph.

Police say during the pursuit, Mumford crossed into oncoming traffic several times and he was found to have been smoking marijuana while driving.

He was arrested and charged with third-degree criminal mischief, possession of marijuana, first-degree wanton endangerment, first-degree fleeing or evading police, DUI, and several traffic violations. He was also found to have active warrants out of Clarksville and Christian County.

A second person in the vehicle was also taken into custody but a full list of his charges and his name have not been released.
