Mac Arthur, 88, of Christian County

Mac Arthur, 88, of Christian County, died at 7:30 a.m. Monday, May 20, 2024, at Bradford Heights Nursing & Rehab Center. 

Private services will be held at a later date.  Dogwood Funerals & Cremations of Hopkinsville is assisting in the arrangements. 

A native of Middlesboro, KY he was born May 18, 1936, the son of the late Phillip and Ethel Mae Arthur.  Mac would then go on to Western Kentucky University where he would major in music.  His studies then took him to the University of Kentucky where he would get his Master’s Degree in Education.  In 1966, he would take the position of Band Director for Hopkinsville High School and Hopkinsville Middle School while also overseeing the choir at Hopkinsville High School.  During this time, Mac also completed his Rank 1 at Austin Peay State University.  In 1969, Mac became principal of Hopkinsville High School and served as principal during the merger of the City and County School Systems. 

In 1974, Mac and his wife, Catherine, purchased Young Hardware on Sixth Street.  He would operate the hardware store and buy and renovate other buildings on Sixth Street as they became available.  In 2018, Mac would close Young Hardware and sell the building due to failing health. 

Survivors include his wife of 59 years:  Catherine Arthur; his daughter:  Misty Ann (Michael) Edilson of Crofton, KY; and his grandson:  Michael Frederick Ramage. 

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Christian County Animal Shelter or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
