As Memorial Day approaches, Trigg County is once again showing its gratitude to our fallen military veterans through thoughtful traditions and community efforts led by local organizations.
Curt Holmes, adjutant of the American Legion Post 74 in Cadiz, says volunteers assist each year in placing American flags at the headstones of veterans.

click to download audioHolmes explained that they typically place American flags at the gravesites of veterans in all Trigg County cemeteries, but due to a shortage of volunteers this year, they focused on East End Cemetery. He added that any old or worn flags they come across will be collected and properly disposed of.
On Monday, the James Thomas Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will hold its annual Memorial Day service at 10:00 a.m. at West Cadiz Park. In case of rain, the ceremony will be moved indoors to the Cadiz Renaissance Center located at 49 Jefferson Street.
As another display of patriotism, the local American Legion will present its annual Field of Flags in front of Hancock’s Neighborhood Market, around Flag Day on Saturday, June 14. The flags will remain on display through the July 4th holiday.
