Helen W. Brown, 93, of Maggie Valley, NC, and formerly of Hopkinsville, KY, died Sunday morning, June 22, 2025, at her residence.
Funeral Mass will be 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church with burial to follow in Green Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., with a Rosary to be said at 11:30 a.m. at the church. Hughart, Beard & Giles Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
A native of Conshohocken, PA, she was born July 6, 1931, the daughter of the late George and Marguerite Wilson. Mrs. Brown and her husband owned and operated the Baskin Robbins in Hopkinsville for 19 years and was affectionately known to many as the “Ice Cream Lady”.
Mrs. Brown was a member of St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church. She was a member of Right to Life. In 2003, she was awarded the Sophia Award by the Diocese of Owensboro. In 2011, on her 80th birthday, she was presented an Apostolic Blessing from the Pope, a Commendation from the Mayor of Hopkinsville and the County Judge Executive, and was honored as a Kentucky Colonel.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Robert Thomas Brown; her daughter-in-law: Sheryl Brown; her brothers: George Wilson, Charles Wilson, John Wilson, Daniel Wilson, and Joe Wilson; her sisters: Kathleen DePietro, Nancy McBrearty, and Terese Calvarese; and her twin great granddaughters: Alana and Cheyenne Carter.
Survivors include her sons: Robert (Renee) Brown of Maggie Valley, NC and Thomas (Kari) Brown of Silverton, OR; her daughters: Patricia (Myron) Carter of Maggie Valley, NC, Mary Lou (Wayne) Manis of Lincolnton, NC, Barbara Brown of Cadiz, KY, Margaret (Jim) McCarver of Cordova, TN, and Joan (Doug) Chessor of Paducah, KY; 14 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church Building Fund.
