Henry Vinson, Jr., 87, of Hopkinsville

Henry R. “Dick” Vinson, Jr., age 87, of Hopkinsville, Kentucky, passed away on Friday, September 5, 2025, at Jennie Stuart Medical Center in Hopkinsville.

He was born on August 27, 1938, in Trigg County, to Henry R. Vinson, Sr., and Geneva Broadbent Vinson.

Dick attended school in Trigg County and later graduated from Castle Heights Military Academy in Lebanon, Tennessee, where he laid the foundation for his disciplined approach to life. He continued his studies at the University of Kentucky, graduating from the School of Pharmacy in 1963. He served his country as a Captain in the United States Army from 1963 to 1966 and dedicated the next 57 years of his life to the field of pharmacy. He began his career as co-owner of Wood’s Drug Store and later served at Walgreens and Cayce’s Pharmacy until his retirement.

Dick was a longtime, devoted member of Mount Zion Methodist Church, where he loved his church family and was known for his kindness, wisdom, and gentlemanly spirit. He enjoyed reading, golfing, and spending quality time with his grandson, Logan. A true sports enthusiast, Dick was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and a passionate supporter of the University of Kentucky football and basketball teams.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by his beloved wife, Cydonna Young Vinson, on September 14, 2013.

He is survived by his sons, Justin Vinson, Rick Vinson, and John Cherry (Missy), all of Hopkinsville; his grandson, Logan Cherry; and his longtime caregiver and friend, Eugene Riddick of Hopkinsville.

Arrangements are being handled by Goodwin Funeral Home, Inc., 138 Main Street in Cadiz, where the family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Tuesday, September 9, 2025. Graveside service will follow at 1:30 PM at Wall Cemetery in Wallonia, Kentucky.
