A native of Rantoul, Illinois, Joshua Bogle retired from the U.S. Army in 2022 after enlisting at 17 years old — ever since seeking camaraderie and kinship.

Last Thursday, October 16, Bogle was part of Graduating Class 562 at the Department of Criminal Justice Training’s basic academy in Richmond — and on Wednesday took his first official steps in uniform for the Cadiz Police Department.

Bogle is well familiar with Trigg County and its surrounding communities. His first station in Fort Campbell was from 2005-10, and then again from 2016-18 and finished his 17-plus years in the Armed Forces at Fort Belvoir, Virginia in 2022.

Cadiz, he said, just always felt like a natural fit, and he’s hoping his military experience brings value to CPD.

It’s also the camaraderie of a unit, he said, that he has missed since his retirement, and he wanted to regain that sense of trust and belief.

This career pivot, he added, was a family choice.

Going from military personnel to civilian life in south western Kentucky, Bogle noted, has so far been rewarding — but interesting.

Bogle also said working in Cadiz just makes sense.

It was their second stint in Fort Campbell, Bogle said, that really brought his family to Cadiz. They moved right along the Trigg/Christian line and chose the Wildcats for schooling purposes and their two children.

DOCJT provides officers with best practices, the latest technology training and legal information to protect the diverse communities they serve. The graduates of Class 562 received more than 800 hours of recruit-level instruction over 20 weeks, and major training areas included patrol procedures, physical training, vehicle operations, defensive tactics, criminal law, traffic and DUI, firearms, criminal investigations, cultural awareness, bias-related crimes, and tactical responses to crisis situations.

Since December 2019, more than 2,100 officers have graduated from the basic training academy.
