The Christian County Colonels marching band celebrated its grand champion finish in the Kentucky Music Educators’ Association State Band Finals on Monday.
Superintendent Chris Bentzel says he was proud to hire Anthony Darnall when he was principal at Christian County High School, calling him a true leader.
Christian County Schools Activities Director Kerry Stovall introduced Darnell and noted that while he didn’t know much about band, he gained a tremendous respect for Darnall.
Darnall says the journey has been quite the experience.
Darnall says the 2025 band leaders and members came into the season with a marked determination after making the finals in four previous seasons.
When he saw the determination of the band this year, he says they planned something a little different, and the students came through.
Following their remarks, each member of the Christian County Colonel band was honored with a certificate that noted they were a part of the State Grand Champion Class 4-A Band.
Last month’s championship was the eighth state final appearance for the Colonel marching band and the first state championship. The band was state runner-up in 1994.
