Incumbent Ward 7 City Councilman Clayton Sumner announced Friday his intent to run again in 2026, and as such has entered the May 2026 Republican primary.
Sumner said many residents have encouraged him to continue serving, and he wants to “build on the progress” made together in the community.
A former police chief for The City of Hopkinsville, Sumner now serves as head of the Christian County Schools police force as Director of School Safety, which began earlier this year.
Sumner has more than two decades of law enforcement experience.
