Mark Mayes, 67, of Richton, Mississippi

A memorial service will be held at a later date for Mr. Mark E. Mayes, age 67, of Richton, who passed from this life on December 24, 2025, at his residence.

Mr. Mayes was a retired Lieutenant with the Kentucky State Police.  He proudly served the Commonwealth of Kentucky for 33 years before retiring, earning the respect of colleagues and the community he faithfully protected. He was a longtime member of the Kentucky State Police Professional Association (KSPPA).  He was a graduate of Christian County High School and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree. He remained deeply connected to his hometown throughout his life and was an active member of the Masonic Lodge in Hopkinsville.

Mr. Mayes was an avid reader and fisherman who found peace and joy in the outdoors. He loved gardening, spending time in nature, and watching old movies. Above all, he cherished his family and friendships. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and a loyal friend to all who knew him.  His legacy of service, integrity, kindness, and love will be remembered by all whose lives he touched.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce Sadler Mayes of Richton; daughter, Brooke (Ben) Shepherd of Texas; stepson, Zachary (Katherine) Downey of Hopkinsville, KY; grandchildren, Lucas Shepherd of Texas, A.J. Bosset and Leo Downey, both of Hopkinsville, KY; and brothers, Terry (Vera) Mayes of Hendersonville, KY and Scott (Bonnie) Mayes of Hopkinsville, KY.
