Richard “Dick” Gust, age 88, of Cadiz, Kentucky, passed away on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at Murray Calloway County Hospital in Murray, Kentucky.
Born on March 26, 1937, in Chicago, Illinois, Dick was the son of Anthony Gust and Anna Krol Gust.
Dick married his high school sweetheart, Sally Golba Gust, in 1960, sharing 58 years of marriage and raising two sons. He dedicated 44 years of his life to working as a meat cutter for Joel Foods in the Chicagoland area. After retiring, he and Sally moved to Cadiz, where they were members of St. Stephen Catholic Church.
An avid outdoorsman, Dick enjoyed fishing, waterfowl and deer hunting, and archery. He was also known for his love of the Chicago Bears.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife, Sally Gust, on July 16, 2018.
He is survived by his sons, Tom Gust (Rosanne), of Lockport, IL and John Gust, of Redondo Beach, CA; two grandchildren, Stephanie Gust James (Edward) and Anthony Gust (Bridgette); three great-grandchildren, Connor & Ryan Gust and Emmet James; and his sister, Arlene Lesiak, of Hometown, IL.
Arrangements are being handled by Goodwin Funeral Home, 138 Main Street in Cadiz, where the family will receive friends after 4:00 PM on Friday, January 2, 2026, with a prayer service to begin at 6:00 PM.
Funeral mass will be at St. Stephen Catholic Church, 1698 Canton Road in Cadiz, at 11:00 AM, Saturday, January 3, 2026, with Father Jegin Puthenpurackal officiating. A short visitation will precede the service beginning at 10:00 AM.
