According to recent reporting from Christian Brown of ClarksvilleNow.com, City of Clarksville officials approved a resolution last week — entering the Clarksville Gas & Water Department into an interlocal agreement with the Pennyrile Regional Energy Agency, creating another supply of natural gas for the city.
PREA plans to construct a natural gas pipeline from Cadiz to the Tennessee state line, providing Clarksville with this additional supply connection.
CGW General Manager Mark Riggins said the project will address long-standing concerns about supply redundancy, noting that earlier plans to build a backup line from Elkton to Clarksville were never pursued.
Riggins further said this agreement with PREA is “what this project probably should have been from Day 1,” and that PREA’s planned pipeline will connect to “major 30-inch natural gas line operated by ANR in Cadiz” — which is “capable” of meeting Clarksville’s current and future growth.
Riggins also called the opportunity “rare and unlikely to come again” for decades.
Under the agreement, PREA will build the pipeline from Cadiz to near Clarksville’s Industrial Park at the Tennessee state line. CGW will construct the infrastructure needed to connect the new line to its existing system. Both entities are using D2 Energy as a consultant to reduce costs and streamline design.
ClarksvilleNow.com further reported that CGW will now begin discussions with large industrial gas users to assess future demand and negotiate capacity with PREA.
