After obtaining Kayleigh Schimp’s civil suit against her former employer, Trigg County Hospital, Tuesday afternoon, the News Edge Media Group reached out for comment from President & CEO John Sumner — seeking understanding about the next steps.
Because an active criminal investigation is still ongoing, a pair of officials tied to the matter could respond: lawyer Anna Whites and Trigg County Sheriff Aaron Acree.
Whites, who has her own practice in Frankfort, represents the hospital, Sumner, HR Director Amy Edmonson and others on the campus in a number of ways, and she noted Schimp’s suit has yet to reach their doorstep.
They will, however, file answers and a response once it is received, and Whites further noted that Schimp was terminated after a “review of professional misconduct while working as an EMT.”
Whites also confirmed that the hospital invested “significant time and money” in training and trying to further Schimp’s education during her tenure — just as they do “with most of their personnel.”
Meanwhile, Acree couldn’t give an exact timeline as to when the investigation will be completed.
Because Schimp lives “outside of the county,” Acree said the Cadiz Police Department was not involved in the investigation.
He did confirm, however, that he was contacted by Sumner, HR staff and other administrators on November 4, 2025, and was asked to pursue an investigation of Schimp in Oak Grove, as well as “possible criminal conduct within the EMS shack.”
Acree said he notified the Christian County Sheriff’s Office of said investigation, and added that once all charges to be levied are clear, the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office will be presenting findings to the Trigg County Grand Jury.
Acree said that the investigation has led to belief that a crime “took place in Trigg County,” while Whites ushered forth confidence in the days ahead — correcting that any litigation wouldn’t need to be extradited from Trigg County’s civil courts.
