While Spring and Fall historically tend to be the greatest risks for tornadoes in Kentucky, ultimately, they can occur any time of the year.
At last week’s Trigg County Chamber of Commerce Lunch and Learn, Lucy and Owen Kyler, owners of Storm Shelters Near Me, shared the founding story of their business. The company started in May 2024 as a way for Owen to protect his family.
Owen shared that they sold 58 storm shelters in 2025 and expect sales to ramp up for 2026, and he wants to raise awareness on the threats of tornadoes.
Owen added that there are several varieties of shelters to choose from.
Owen shared that his company also offers relocations for storm shelters.
While not endorsing Storm Shelters Near Me or any other storm shelter company, Trigg County Emergency Management Director David Bryant said shelters are very important.
Bryant reported that since 1890, Trigg County has seen 28 confirmed tornadoes, while Christian County has seen 59. Despite various storms over the years, a 1890 F2 twister caused eight injuries. To date, that remains the only reported tornado-related casualties in Trigg County history.
