A man who severely injured himself as law enforcement tried to arrest him on a warrant died at a Nashville hospital Wednesday morning.
Christian County Sheriff’s deputies say Tuesday night, 40-year-old Christopher Oxendine shot himself in the head as deputies showed up at his home to arrest him on active warrants for probation violation out of Kentucky.
Hopkinsville Fire Lieutenant Nathan Stewart says a helicopter was called to the old Lacy Elementary School building, but due to his injuries, he was taken by Hopkinsville EMS to Jennie Stuart Health with CPR in progress.
Oxendine was later taken to a Nashville hospital, where he died from his injuries.
Deputies say they could see Oxendine inside, and when they entered the home, he shot himself. Deputies say no law enforcement fired any shots during the incident, and they were not able to talk with him before he shot himself.
The home is located at the 12000 block of Antioch Church Road.
