Those who travel I-24 between Christian County and Nashville will need to be ready for possible travel delays over the next few months.

Transportation officials have announced a major five-mile repair project is kicking off between the 88-mile marker at Oak Grove and the Tennessee state line, beginning Sunday.

For the next several months, traffic in both directions will be shifted onto the eastbound side of the interstate, with temporary barrier walls separating the lanes. This configuration means the maximum allowable width for any vehicle is strictly 14 feet. Oversized loads will need to detour using I-65 to I-165, then across the Western Kentucky Parkway to I-69 to reconnect with I-24.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet expects work to continue through mid-August, weather permitting. Motorists should anticipate reduced speeds and potential bottlenecks, especially during peak travel times.
