A Celebration of Life for 65-year-old Excel Durand Wharton of Louisville, and formerly of Cadiz, will be held Saturday, March 14, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at King’s Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the UBF Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00-12:00 on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at King’s Funeral Home.
Survivors include his brothers, Dwight Wharton (Barbara), Cadiz, KY; and Gerald Wharton, Cadiz, KY; a sister-in-law, Velma Wharton, Salinas, CA; and a number of nieces, nephews, and other family members.
Excel Duran Wharton was born in Cadiz, KY, on November 17, 1960, to Lorraine Marie Wharton Kirby. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles James Kirby Jr., Byron Wharton, and Curtis Wharton.
He passed away on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at his home.
Excel was a member of the Bloomfield Missionary Baptist Church and accepted Christ at an early age. He had worked for Craig Fowler Construction and Bill Stallons Masonry. He later moved to Louisville, worked at the University of Louisville Hospital in the Culinary Department, worked at Rehab Housing, and performed janitorial services.
