Farm Credit Mid-America Returns $4.7 Million to Local Farmers

Farm Credit Mid-America will return $280 million in net earnings to eligible customer-owners this month through its annual patronage program, including more than $4.7 million to farmers served by the organization’s Hopkinsville office.

The distribution includes $34.4 million to farmers across Kentucky and $4.7 million to producers in Caldwell, Christian, Lyon, and Trigg counties.

Farm Credit Mid-America officials say the patronage payments come at a time when farmers continue to face tight margins, higher input costs, and uncertainty in agricultural markets.

According to the organization, farmers commonly use patronage payments to help pay down operating or term debt, offset spring planting and input costs, reinvest in equipment or land improvements, or strengthen working capital.

Mark Barker, senior vice president of agricultural lending in Kentucky for Farm Credit Mid-America, said the program reflects the organization’s cooperative structure.

In addition to the patronage program, Farm Credit Mid-America reports it invests about $5 million annually in rural communities through education initiatives, leadership development, youth programs, and support for future agricultural leaders.
