JD Phipps, age 89, of Hopkinsville, passed away on Saturday, March 7, 2026, surrounded by his family at his daughter’s home, of natural causes. Funeral Services will be at 1:00 PM on Friday, March 13, 2026, at Maddux Fuqua Hinton Funeral Home with Brother Rodney Skipworth officiating and burial to follow in New Ebenezer Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday, March 13, 2026, from 11:00 AM until the service hour at 1:00 PM. Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home has been entrusted by the family to handle the arrangements.
JD was born on December 15, 1936, in Christian County, KY, the son of the late Riley and Ival Pearl Richardson Phipps. He was a member of Bellview Baptist Church. Throughout his lifetime, he did many different things, but being a dad, a grandpa, and farming were his favorites. He had a true passion for farming and woodworking. He worked for over 27 years as a Machinist at Mid-Continent Spring Company and worked in Maintenance at Bradford Square Mall until his retirement. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Mae Grace Phipps, in 2024, and his sister, Dorothy Phipps.
Survivors include his son, Jeff (Melissa) Phipps of Hopkinsville; his daughters, Sheila Stagner of Hopkinsville, Susan (Skip) Cunningham of Hopkinsville; his sister, Helen (Garland) Tucker of Christian County; his seven grandchildren, Mandy (Russ) Guffey, Jason (Melissa) Stagner, Lindsay (Bradley) Bardwell, Dylan (Melanie) Phipps, Wyatt Phipps, Melina (Wesley) Elverd, and Tanner (Kati) Cunningham; and his twelve great grandchildren, Chaney, Laiken, Adler, and Cannon Guffey, Jason and Carter Stagner, Brooks, Beau, and Brady Bardwell, Cohen and Beckham Phipps and Aynslee Fincher.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pennyroyal Hospice at 220 Burley Avenue, Hopkinsville, KY 42240.
