Man Charged With Drug Possession During Traffic Stop

A traffic stop on West 7th Street in Hopkinsville led to drug charges for a Hopkinsville man on Thursday morning.

Christian County Sheriff’s deputies say they got out with a vehicle driven by 24-year-old Johnny Jenkins after he stopped at a stop sign with no traffic for a longer than normal time.

During the stop, he was reportedly found to have a suspended license, and the odor of marijuana was coming from him.

Deputies say after a search of his vehicle, suspected cocaine, several pills, suspected marijuana, and a pipe were found.

Deputies say he showed signs of being under the influence and after field sobriety test he was arrested and charged with careless driving, improper parking violation, DUI, operating on a suspended or revoked license, possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana, possession of an open alcoholic beverage container in a motor vehicle, first-degree possession of a controlled substance, and prescription controlled substance not in a proper container.
