A Hopkinsville man was charged after he reportedly assaulted a woman on Millbrooke Drive and then fired a gun at a Hopkinsville restaurant on Sunday morning.

Hopkinsville Police say they were called to Millbrooke Drive for a woman who claimed Derick Moorefield, with whom she had been in a prior relationship, assaulted her, performed a sexual act on her,  while being armed with a gun and holding her against her will.

Shortly after receiving that call, they received a report of a burglary on Latham Avenue that reportedly involved Moorefield.

Police say they were then called to Burger King on Fort Campbell Boulevard for Moorefield, screaming for them to open, because he wanted water. He then reportedly fired a shot from a gun he had on him.

Moorefield was arrested and charged with kidnapping, strangulation, sodomy, trafficking marijuana, possession of a controlled substance, burglary, public intoxication, and disorderly conduct.
