Officials have closed a portion of Old Hopkinsville Road near Clyde Thomas Road until further notice after an inspection revealed damage to the Steele Branch Bridge.

Addressing magistrates Monday night, Trigg County Judge-Executive Stan Humphries noted that this latest road closure comes on the heels of East Lake Road’s reopening following its own bridge repair project.

KYTC District 1 Spokesperson Carrie Dillard said that following a recent annual inspection, substructural issues were identified, which led to the decision to close the bridge to ensure public safety.

She added that engineers are reviewing inspection reports and will communicate with Humphries as to whether any remedial actions could be taken to reopen the bridge at a reduced weight rating temporarily.

Humphries added that it is a small road, but it does see heavy traffic at times.
