Members of Ponderosa Baptist Church gathered Sunday to celebrate the ribbon cutting of a new $1.5 million facility designed to expand the church’s ministries.
Pastor Norman Cotton says the building, called “The Upper Rooms,” will serve as a fellowship hall, education space and home to a unique sewing ministry that has sent handmade items to places like Jamaica, Haiti and Mexico, as well as local events such as the Little Sturgis motorcycle rallies.
The project began before the COVID-19 pandemic and was delayed for over a year, but Cotton says the congregation remained committed. Despite expecting to borrow up to $300,000, the church completed both floors of the building debt-free.
The new space will also house nine Sunday school classrooms, while the church’s former fellowship hall has been renovated into the Rose Hall Children’s Ministry Center.
Cotton credits more than 1,000 hours of volunteer labor from church members as key to completing the project.
Founded 26 years ago, the church serves a diverse congregation in the Rockcastle area of Trigg County, drawing members from nearby campgrounds and surrounding communities.
