A Hopkinsville woman was charged with abandoning a minor on Mechanic Street in Hopkinsville on Sunday afternoon.
Hopkinsville Police say they were called for a welfare check and found that 35-year-old Tiera Ferrar had dropped off her child at a school event. The child was reportedly picked up by a friend after Ferrar had only picked up one of her children on Friday.
The friend reportedly then tried to take the child, but Ferrar refused to open the door and said she did not want the child there.
Police say Ferrar would not identify herself and closed the door on officers, then resisted arrest by fleeing into the home and pulling away.
The child reportedly had no belongings, and the friend stated she could not take care of her and had to return her to her mother.
Child Services was called to investigate the incident with law enforcement. Ferrar was arrested and charged with abandonment of a minor and resisting arrest.
