The Hopkinsville Police Department has announced new restrictions at Lake Morris, citing ongoing concerns about activity during overnight hours.
According to police, Lake Morris will now close daily at 7 p.m. following what officials described as a high number of complaints related to misuse of the area after dark.
Officers did not specify the nature of all complaints, but said the decision follows repeated issues involving behavior that has negatively affected the park.
Lake Morris is a popular recreation spot in Hopkinsville, offering fishing, walking trails, and a nice outdoor setting just minutes from downtown. The lake, originally developed as part of the city’s water infrastructure, has evolved into a community gathering place for outdoor activities.
Last month, Magistrate Josh Turner shared a message on social media about issues at Lake Blythe in the county. He said the problems brought to his attention included trash left behind, speeding, fires, and illegal dumping.
