
The Christian County Grand Jury issued several indictments on Friday, including one for a Hopkinsville man arrested in January in connection to the theft of youth football equipment.
A true bill was returned on James Phillips, Jr. on a charges of theft by unlawful taking over $10,000 but under $1 million, and second degree criminal mischief.
According to Hopkinsville Police, Phillips stole a trailer from the Hopkinsville-Christian County Bud Hudson Youth League containing over $60,000 worth of equipment for their youth football program on January 7.
The grand jury also indicted William Merritt, of Hopkinsville, on charges of first-degree assault, convicted felon in possession of a handgun, and tampering with physical evidence.
Merritt is accused of shooting his brother during an argument on Younglove Street on November 14, 2024, after his brother showed up at the hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg.
