A Hopkinsville man was charged with theft after taking an inventory scanner from a store on East 7th Street on Thursday morning.
Hopkinsville Police say 45-year-old David Murphy took the inventory scanner from the Dollar General, thinking it was a cellphone, but threw it into a garage after discovering it was not.
He was arrested and charged with theft by unlawful taking.
