A staff member with the Christian County Public School System has been charged after an investigation on Friday morning.
School district spokeswoman Johnna Brown says an alleged incident involving a child and a staff member at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Early Learning Center led to the removal of the staff member from the classroom and an arrest by law enforcement.
According to the citation from the Christian County Public School System Law Enforcement, 22-year-old Constance Larson, of Clarksville, was observed on camera striking a juvenile multiple times with both of her hands while the child was under her care.
She reportedly denied raising her hands towards the child and stated she was only grabbing the child’s hand twice.
The district says it will not tolerate actions that threaten the safety of children and students in their care, adding that the safety of the children is the district’s highest priority. Brown says counseling and support resources are being made available to those affected.
Larson was arrested and charged with second-degree criminal abuse.
