Julie Faye Gates, 74, of Hopkinsville

Julie Faye Gates, age 74, went onto her next adventure to be with her husband, Marvin Gates, early in the morning on January 7th, 2026, with her beloved children, AJ and Jessica, holding her at Hospice of Southern Kentucky in Bowling Green of natural causes.

Her children saw her through the ICU and into hospice, making sure she was comfortable, warm, without pain, and not afraid and not alone, which were her final wishes. We said our goodbyes and she left knowing she was loved and that we knew she loved us and was proud of us.

AJ was her long-time caregiver while she fought COPD and did a phenomenal job. She told us she saw our dad reaching for her before she left, and our Uncle Bill told her to “hurry up.”

But her last words were looking at her daughter. She said, “Hi beautiful” and I said, “Momma.” Julie has left us to be home with her people and pets who met her at the Rainbow Bridge…and we’ll meet her again there someday.

Until then…The family has chosen cremation with a Celebration of Life Service to be held at a later date. Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home has been entrusted by the family to handle the arrangements.

Julie was born in Moline, IL on August 2, 1951, the daughter of the late Clint and Johnnie Jones Allen. She grew up in Silvis and graduated from U.T.H.S in 1969. She graduated from Stevens College in 1970. Julie was a Certified Professional Model.

She had previously worked at John Deere, First Midwest Bank, and IH Miss Valley C.U. She was owner-operator of Enchanted Inn. Julie and her husband Marvin planted over 1000 Poplar Trees in rural Henry County, IL. She was a Master Calligrapher and an accomplished seamstress. She made 350 masks during the covid crisis. Julie was a two-time Breast Cancer Survivor. Fighting with Courage and Determination.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Marvin in 2023; her brother, Bill Allen; and her infant sister, Johnnie Anne Allen.

Survivors include her son, AJ Gates of Oak Grove, KY; her daughter, Jessica Gates Anderson and husband Ike of Columbus, GA; and her three grandchildren, Apollo, Johnnie, and Zuzu Anderson.
