Eddie Owen is shifting his focus at the Edge Media Group, transitioning away from his daily radio show duties to mark a new chapter in his 54-year career.
Though he is stepping back from the daily grind of the airwaves at age 71, Owen clarified that he isn’t leaving the industry entirely, but rather slowing down to pursue other personal interests and passions.
Owen shared the news with listeners Thursday morning on WHVO’s Hoptown This Morning and his midday country program on WKDZ, saying his most recent broadcasting stint came about while scrolling through Facebook one night.
Owen will remain an active presence on the airwaves by continuing his daily sports updates and hosting some remote broadcasts, but will pick up more work for his other passion: traveling.
Owen’s venture into broadcasting began in the early 1970s at WABD-AM in Oak Grove, a position he secured a week after his high school graduation. Since then, Owen became a familiar voice at several regional staples, including Hopkinsville’s WHOP, WKOA (now WHVO), TV 43—alongside a tenure at a station in Clarksville.
Edge Media Group Operations Manager Bill Booth said he has truly enjoyed working with Owen for the last 11 1/2 years.
Owen added that he will miss working with the employees of the Edge Media Group on a daily basis.
Owen’s last shows on Hoptown This Morning and 106.5 WKDZ will be on Friday. Tom Rogers takes his place on Hoptown This Morning, with co-host Kyle Rader, who joined the show in July 2025.
WKDZ’s night-time host Greg Leath will take over the 9 AM to Noon show and remain on air from 6:00 to 9:00 PM each weeknight.
