Two city buses and five buses for Pennyrile Allied Community Services were disabled due to catalytic converter thefts over the weekend.

Pennyrile Allied Community Services Transportation maintenance technician Shane Rodgers says seven large buses, including two city of Hopkinsville buses, had the catalytic converters cut off of them over the weekend.

Six of the buses were in Hopkinsville, and one was parked in Madisonville. Rodgers says they have made a police report and are working to get all the buses back on the road, adding it is nearly $8,000 each to get new catalytic converters put on them.

Rodgers says this will not only hurt people who are using public transportation, but many of their riders are elderly and have doctor’s appointments, along with other needs that they use them for transportation for.

One of the buses is used to transport people to Nashville for Veteran Affairs, the airport, and the hospitals.

If you have any information about the thefts, call Hopkinsville Police at 270-890-1300 or Madisonville Police at 270-821-1720.
