Elsie Grigsby Tyler, age 79, of Cadiz, Kentucky, passed away on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at Murray Calloway County Hospital in Murray, Kentucky.
She was born on December 16, 1946, in Trigg County, to the late Oscar Grigsby and Irene Freeman Grigsby.
Elsie was a 1964 graduate of Trigg County High School and furthered her education at Murray State University, where she earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education. Her career in education spanned over three decades, during which she dedicated her life to teaching special education, English, and computer technology classes at Trigg County Middle School. After her retirement, she imparted her knowledge of classroom technology to student teachers at Murray State University.
Elsie attended Bethel Methodist Church. She enjoyed researching her family genealogy, fishing, and especially loved taking trips to the beach with friends. Her pride and joy were her grandchildren, Ian, Emma, and Tanner, who lovingly called her “Nana.” Elsie was a constant presence in their lives, attending every school activity and sports event, always their biggest cheerleader.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Clarence Grigsby.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, William E. “Pippy” Tyler of Cadiz, her sons, Brian Tyler (Jill) of Gracey, Kentucky and Steven Tyler of Cadiz; her grandchildren, Ian Tyler, Emma Tyler, and Tanner Tyler; her brothers, Lonnie Grigsby of Sarasota, Florida and Dr. Perry Grigsby of St. Louis, Missouri, and her sister-in-law, Lela Grigsby of Cerulean, Kentucky.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM, Sunday, February 15, 2026, at Goodwin Funeral Home, 138 Main Street in Cadiz, with Rev. Jamus Redd officiating. Burial will follow in Bethel Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the funeral home on Sunday from 11:00 AM until the service time of 2:00 PM.
