A Clarksville man was charged after he reportedly fled from law enforcement and almost hit an officer during a safety checkpoint on Pembroke Oak Grove Road Sunday night.

Christian County Sheriff’s deputies say a vehicle driven by 37-year-old Ernest Weaver disregarded signals from officers directing traffic, almost hit an officer, and failed to stop right away when deputies activated their lights and sirens behind him.

Weaver pulled over, and deputies say the odor of an alcoholic beverage was coming from the vehicle.

He reportedly would not identify himself, he had slurred speech, and he had to be forcefully removed from the vehicle while resisting arrest, leading to a deputy suffering injuries to his knee and hands.

Weaver was arrested and charged with third-degree assault of a police officer, disregard signals from officers directing traffic, failure to or improper signal, second-degree fleeing or evading police, DUI, resisting arrest, and first-degree wanton endangerment of a police officer.
