A Patriots Day commemoration is set for Saturday, April 18, in Hopkinsville.

The annual ceremony will begin at 2 p.m. at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West on Fort Campbell Boulevard. The event is sponsored by the Col. Stephen Trigg Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution.

Organizers say the ceremony will take place at the SAR Monolith within the cemetery, which honors more than 70 patriots of the American Revolution who lived and died in Christian County. Their names are engraved on the memorial.

The event is designated as a National SAR Color Guard event and will count toward official color guard recognition medals. Participating SAR and DAR chapters presenting wreaths will receive a flag streamer.

Officials note this will be a color guard event only. They also say all known patriots buried in previously unknown locations in Christian County have now been officially marked.

For more information about the ceremony, organizers encourage the public to email triggpatriots@usa.com.
