Law enforcement agencies in Stewart County, Tennessee, continue an intensive search for a man now facing a charge of attempted second-degree murder following a domestic shooting early Friday morning.
According to the Stewart County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to a home early Friday for a shooting involving Craig Berry, who authorities say shot his wife during a domestic altercation before running away into nearby woods prior to deputies arriving. Emergency medical services transported the victim to a medical facility for treatment.
Since the initial incident, investigators have secured an additional warrant charging Berry with attempted second-degree murder. Officials say he should be considered armed and dangerous.
Berry is described as a retired Special Forces veteran with extensive survival training. Authorities say he is in good physical condition, is an experienced swimmer and diver, and may be carrying at least one handgun along with extra ammunition.
He was last seen near River Trace Road in the Paris Landing area, where K-9 units tracked his movements. A trail camera image reportedly shows him wearing camouflage clothing.
Investigators say Berry is not believed to have a phone or other communication devices, but they are not ruling out the possibility that he may have received outside assistance. At this time, authorities say there is no indication he has left the area.
The search effort has expanded, with multiple agencies—including the U.S. Marshals Service—coordinating the operation. A detailed search focused on the area from River Trace Road to Highway 79, including parts of Highway 232.
Residents in Stewart County and nearby areas, including southern portions of Calloway and Trigg counties near the state line, are urged to remain alert and report any suspicious activity. Authorities stress that Berry should not be approached.
Anyone with information is asked to call 911 immediately.
