Kentucky holds a special place in passing the 19th Amendment into law, extending voting rights to women.  It was one of the 36 states needed for ratification.  On August 18, 1920, voting rights for women passed the Senate and became effective eight days later.

Hopkinsville will celebrate the amendment’s 100th anniversary on Tuesday, August 18, 2020, with a Celebration Parade 5:30-6:15.

The community is invited to participate in one of two ways; a walk which begins at the Old Courthouse (511 South Main Street) at 5:30 or a motorcade beginning at Freeman Chapel (137 South Virginia Street) parking lot at 5:30.

The parade will end at Justice Center (100 Justice way) for a brief presentation at 6:00.

In case of rain, meet at Founders Square Pavilion (110 West 9th Street) at 6:00.

No political campaign promotions please.
