Power Crews Working to Restore Power But It May Take a Bit

Pennyrile Electric is working to restore power to nearly half of its customers that are in the dark due to the high winds and storms. The outages are widespread through Trigg, Christian, Caldwell, Lyon, and Todd counties.

Brent Gilkey with Pennyrile Electric said the gusty winds that have hit over 60 miles per hour day and prompted a high wind warning from the National Weather Service has made it impossible to deploy bucket into the air for repairs.

click to download audioGilkey said as of late afternoon, there were over 200 outages which tied up phone lines to local offices to report them. He said a text can be sent to report an outage if the line to the office is busy.

click to download audioIn addition to local crews, Gilkey said help is coming from other electric co-ops in the region.

click to download audioGilkey said because of the nature of the outages, it won’t be a quick fix for some customers.

click to download audioMeanwhile, Kenegy is reporting over 16,000 customers without power in its service area, including over 240 in Caldwell, more than 350 in Crittenden, and approximately 1,070 customers in Lyon County.

LG&E and KU are reporting over 370 outages in Caldwell County and over 80 in Crittenden County.
